Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of our Society.

There are several categories of volunteers - visiting volunteers, grief support volunteers, friends of hospice and board members.

Volunteers are:

• carefully selected.

• undergo in-depth training and exposure to service.

• receive ongoing education and support.

• visit people where they are, at home or in hospital.

• focus on the person, rather than on the problem.

• listen.

• give respite.

Visiting Volunteer

The visiting volunteer is an advocate who comforts and supports the dying person, his family and his friends.

The long term care of a palliative patient is extremely emotional and physically exhausting for the home caregiver. Visiting volunteers are available to give caregivers respite.

Grief Support Volunteer

The grief support volunteer is specially trained in bereavement and, if requested, continues to offer support to the family after the death of their loved one.

Friends Of Hospice

Friends of hospice contribute to the wholeness of the Society. Without them the soul of our mission would be wanting and our quest for excellence would not be possible. They assist in fundraising, organizing events and on committees.

Board Members

Board members are made up of people from all walks of life. They are passionate in their commitment to the goals and mandate of the Society.

Besides formulating policies, they serve on a variety of committees, addressing issues of education, finance, human resources, fundraising, public relations, building, ad hoc committees and governance.
