What Is The Difference Between Grief and Mourning?

Grief is a natural internal response to loss.
Regardless of a person’s age, common grief responses can affect the emotional state, physical well-being, behaviours, mental capabilities and spirituality. Grief is a process, not an event.

Mourning is an external response to loss. The way you mourn will fit with who you are.

Bereavement Support Groups

We invite you to join our grief support groups where we further acknowledge and embrace the pain of loss by honouring one another’s stories. We listen and learn as we do the hard work of mourning, and we affirm our understanding that death is a universal, inevitable part of life. See our “Group Support” page for the different groups offered by our Hospice Society.

One-on-One Support

One-on-one bereavement support is available from Hospice staff and/or trained volunteers.

Library

Our library contains a wealth of resources that provide information, encouragement and support for people living with grief and loss.

Community Education

Our staff and volunteers are available to speak to community groups to increase public awareness of grief and loss issues as they effect all ages.
